A Rundown of RPM2’s Partnerships

MJP and RPM2 picSince the invention of our footbeds and subsequent establishment of our company, we have sought out partnerships within the athletic community to help empower athletes and make our proprietary technology more accessible. Our current corporate partnerships include Michael Johnson Performance, Inc. and our athletic partnerships include Dostie Bausch, an Olympic silver medalist, and Lesley Paterson, a two-time Xterra champion.

Michael Johnson Performance, Inc.

In November of 2014, RPM² established a corporate partnership with Michael Johnson Performance (MJP). Operated by Olympian, Michael Johnson, MJP has a team of expert coaches and trainers to help athletes of all ages and skill levels across the world. From working with Brazilian paralympic teams to running sports camps in North Texas, MJP is helping to shape and inspire competitors on a global level. The announcement of our partnership with MJP was an exciting moment for our team and since working with MJP, RPM² footbeds have been put to great use.

Dotsie Bausch

Olympian and silver medalist from the 2012 Olympic Games, Dotsie Bausch has had an illustrious career as a track cyclist and now as a motivational speaker, commentator, and coach. She currently runs a successful personal coaching company. In addition to her work as a coach and commentator, Dotsie Bausch is dedicated to raising awareness for eating disorders by acting as a national ambassador for NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association). Regarding RPM²’s technology, she believes that our devices are “revolutionizing the way we measure power in cycling.”

Lesley Paterson

After a successful career as an accomplished triathlete, Lesley Paterson co-founded Braveheart Coaching, which is based in San Diego. Originally, from Scotland, Lesley Paterson is a three-time world champion in off-road triathlon and an Ironman champion. She utilizes her extensive experience and knack for coaching to help aspiring athletes meet their goals. RPM² is proud to serve as a sponsor and partner to Lesley.

5 Benefits of Winter Training for Cyclists and Triathletes

Many endurance athletes forego training in the winter for various reasons. Some may need the much-needed break while others feetfind themselves too busy with Holiday traveling. For those that do want to continue training throughout the winter, there are some obvious benefits to taking a year-round approach, even during the sometimes-harsh winter months. Following are a few insights from our team at RPM².

Strength

Beyond the obvious benefits of maintaining strength with year-round training, winter training can actually increase strength and stamina. This is because your gear and clothing will be heavier. Layers and bulky clothes that help protect you from the elements will add weight that will ultimately help you build muscle and strength over time.

Weather Acclimation

Winter training will make you tougher because you will have to acclimate to harsh weather. Powering through freezing temperatures and snow provides a new perspective of your fortitude—especially when you hit the trails in nicer, balmy weather in the spring.

Improved Immunity

Studies show that those who stay active during the winter are less likely to catch common sicknesses like the cold or flu. This is becausetraining boosts your immunity.

Alone Time on Trails Can Promote a Healthy Mindset

When others are feeling the winter blues or feeling depressed due to a lack of sunlight, the release of endorphins that accompanies training along with solitude that comes with cycling or running is good for mental health. Time to reflect and endorphins will help stave off anxiety and depression.

Exploring New Trails and Circuits

Snow and ice may close off your favorite trails. While this may seem like a bummer, it’s actually a blessing. When your go-to trails are unavailable, you get the opportunity to deviate from your regular routine and explore. Finding new places to train will liven up your routine and even give you something to look forward to.

RPM² is proud to deliver revolutionary technology in our footbeds. Our mission is to help athletes around the globe perform more efficiently. Follow us on social media or visit our website to find out more about our products and partnerships with decorated athletes and coaches.

2016 Resolutions: Training Tips from RPM2

Our team at RPM² is dedicated to helping cyclists, runners, and triathletes get the most out of their training regimen with our running4revolutionary products. Our inserts, made with proprietary technology, provide thorough analyses of biomechanical movements so that coaches, trainers, and athletes can monitor bilateral symmetry. In addition to offering state-of-the-art features like power meters and mobile app capability, we support the endurance sport community by posting training tips, nutritional information, and newsworthy announcements.

Hydrate As Soon As You Wake Up

Most people reach for a cup of coffee or hot tea first thing in the morning. While the intake of caffeine certainly helps with feeling alert, the first thing we all should drink in the morning is water. It makes sense if you think about it. You just spent six to eight hours sleeping. That is six to eight hours without a sip of water. This means that when you wake up, you are on the verge of dehydration. Instead of sipping a cup of java first thing in the morning, try drinking two glasses of water.

Training Harder? Sleep Longer

If you are increasing the duration and/or intensity of your training sessions, you also need to increase your rest time. After arduous and demanding workouts, your body will need more rest. Consider sleeping an hour longer or incorporating afternoon naps into your schedule.

Consider Group Training

If you train alone, it is easy to fall into a rut or skip training all together because you only have to answer to yourself. If you decide to train with a group, you will suddenly have new sources of motivation. Your group members will help you stay accountable with your goals because you have committed to training alongside them. Group training also adds a social aspect to your workouts, which can make them feel more fun and less dull.

Try Post-Workout Massage

Massage is a great way to relieve post-workout tightness and soreness and while scheduling a professional massage after every workout is impractical, you can achieve similar results with personal massage tools. Foam rollers are used by athletes of all kinds for relieving tension after a vigorous training session.

What Heather Has to Say about RPM2

Running with Power Podcast: Jim Vance talks RPM2

jim vance coachDuring our visit to Kona for Ironman 2015, RPM² sponsored a seminar with well-known coach, Jim Vance on “Running with Power”. Shortly after returning from Hawaii, Jim Vance joined the Natural Running Network Podcast to delve deeper into his research on power running. To listen to the full podcast, click here.

On the podcast, Jim discussed the potential of power meters. In fact, about four years ago, Jim wrote on his official blog “as soon as we bring power meters into running, every world record will fall.” He believes power meters will transform running, cycling, and other sports because this data can lead to very precise training and coaching, which he states will “revolutionize performance as we know it.” Jim and the podcast’s host, Richard Diaz, discuss the ramifications between the traditional method of analyzing power with heart rate and the potential of technology with power meters. Jim also touches on the applications of RPM²’s power meter technology in coaching. Richard and Jim then go on to discuss the issue of bilateral equivalence and how bilateral deficits will impact performance and even potentially lead to injury. Overall, this insightful podcast demonstrates how technology will be of great benefit to athletes and coaches.

About Jim Vance

Based in San Diego, Jim Vance is a prolific writer and coach. He is a USA Triathlon Level 2 Certified Coach. His background in competition includes an Ironman PR of 8:37:09. Jim is a two-time XTERRA and ITU World Champion.
